In the heart of London, just steps from Trafalgar Square, is Benjamin Franklin House, the world's only remaining Franklin home. For nearly sixteen years between 1757 and 1775, Dr Benjamin Franklin - scientist, diplomat, philosopher, inventor, Founding Father of the United States and more - lived behind its doors.
The Historical Experience (each Wednesday-Sunday) sets a new standard for historical interpretation and uses live performance and leading edge sound, lighting and visual projection to tell Franklin’s rich London story in his own words. Visitors encounter Polly, daughter of Franklin's landlady, who escorts them on their journey through the building on Franklin's last night in London. She provides observations, laughter, confidential asides, and tearful revelations; there are also moments when she grows quiet and other characters can be heard: the voices of Franklin, his landlady Margaret Stevenson, those of his family members, trusted friends and foes, all illuminate the plot, layering different perspectives into a rich whole.
On Mondays the House exclusively offers visitors an architectural tour of the building.
