
Indeed this bear does have a story. There once was a bear cub who joined the crew of USS Constitution while she was visiting ports all along the US coast to thank the public for the support they offered to refit a very derelict ship back in the 1920s. As USS Constitution sailed down the Pacific coast, the young cub, who by this time was known as "Commodore Scrappy", would bask on the warm deck, drink from the bubbler on board, and enjoy ice cream with the crew. Alas, he grew too large, and in San Diego he left the crew and spent the rest of his life, happily, at it's world famous zoo.
