Primary Schools
The Gallery is a unique learning environment, in which children experience both traditional and contemporary art. The Gallery’s ethos encourages each child to develop their own individual response to the artwork they view. Each term a programme of free tours and workshops with artists are offered to Primary Schools, these events are devised around the Gallery's exhibitions. Class groups are invited to visit LCGA to avail of the tours and workshops, with a focus on the children connecting with the works in contemporary exhibitions and the historic collection.

The Shinnors Curatorial Scholarship provides the opportunity to investigate specific areas of interest through combined theoretical and empirical research and the initiation of an event or exhibition within the gallery context. It allows the candidate to undertake a MA or PhD by Research at Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD), while based predominantly at Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA). The schema of the programme is to provide a unique learning opportunity for practice-based research. The result is an immersion into the dynamic programme of a public gallery, with opportunities to meet and engage with artists, groups and institutions in relation to the gallery programmes. The funding for the project is provided by a scholarship donated for this purpose by Limerick City Gallery of Art and supported by John Shinnors.
