The North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers website
An outstanding piece of high Gothic architecture, the building comprises the Library of the Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers and its Edwardian Lecture Theatre in the grade II* Listed Building next to Newcastle's Central Station. The Library is free to visit and school parties are encouraged to learn about the heritage of coal mining, steam locomotion and early railways. The Library includes resources on all types of mining, including lead, gold, silver and other metals. There are substantial resources to study early industrialisation, geloogy, mapping, surveying and a huge collection of maps and photographs. Tals and lectures take place regularly and are free to the public. Talks and lectures can be arranged for schools and for outside organisations, we can also visit you to give a talk.
