Stockport's unique Air Raid Shelters have been carved into the natural sandstone cliffs in Stockport Town Centre. When the Shelters opened in 1939, they were the largest purpose built civilian air raid shelters in the country.

This is where the Shelters' Warden would have been based. The Warden kept law and order inside the tunnels and was also the only person who could...
The bunk beds are the original ones used in the Shelters during the war. It was quite a luxury to have public shelters that were so well equipped;...
