Statue Of Liberty National Monument is located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. The statue was a gift from the French people to the United States during the late 1800's; designed by Frederic Bartholdi, the inspiration as noted on the tablet in her hand, bears the date of American Independence. The statue has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition of her significance as a symbol of freedom and democracy.
