One of the cups bears the inscription:

Originally the gift of Gryffith Matthewes, Citizen and Vintener of London, sonne to Edward ap Edward ap Madoge of the Parish of Ruabon 1616 Remade Anno Dom 1776 Sr Watkin Williams Wynn Bart.

Did you know?
These cups are still in regular use at Ruabon, the church for which they were made.
Two  matching  silver  communion  cups,  of  goblet  form,  one  bearing  an  inscription.  Each  is  decorated  with  leaves,  the  IHS  emblem  and  beading  around  a  circular  base.  The  stem  is  thin  and  elegant  with  a  decorative  knob,  a  vestige  of  pre-Reformation  style.
