The Violinist by Sir Stanley Spencer

A man playing a violin, standing by a grand piano. Also, possibly part of a second figure in the bottom right corner. Dating from 1925 and not typical of Spencer's later, better-known works, which were usually large with many figures painted in naturalistic detail, this small painting shows him experimenting with abstraction, with its large areas of flat, uniform colour.
