The Staircase
This cage-newel staircase is only one of three examples in the country and is the reason why Staircase House has its name. It was added to the House in 1618 when the house was extended by the Shallcross family. It was intricately carved and was extremely beautiful. However, it suffered damage from a fire which torn through the House in the 1970s, and now only some of the original design can be seen.
