White rhino

The name rhinoceros comes from a Greek word meaning 'nose horn'. A rhino horn isn't like a sheep, cow or antelope's horns: it is made completely of keratin (the same thing as hair, nails and hooves) and doesn't have a bony inside.

Greater one-horned rhinos are the tallest of the rhinos, but white rhinos are about a third of a tonne heavier at two and a half tonnes.

The white rhino doesn't have front teeth (neither incisors nor canines) but uses the lips of its wide, straight mouth to gather food.
