Chelmsford Cathedral surprises people. On first sight it looks a surprisingly modest parish church. "Surely this isn't the Cathedral" people often say or think. But when they step inside they are often amazed by its sense of space, light and colour.

Chelmsford Museum is in a lovely Victorian mansion set in Oaklands Park. It contains wide range of collections which cover art, natural history, Roman and medieval Chelmsford, Victorians and The Essex Regiment Museum and The Essex Yeomanry.

This exhibition tells the story of the county Regiment from its origins in 1741. It explains the nickname, 'The Pompadours' and follows the Regiment's fortunes throughout the major conflicts in the British Empire, the World Wars and the Korean War.

The Museum holds objects and archival material relating to the history of the force from 1840 including personnel, disciplinary and other records, together with more general documents and a large photographic collection.

Hylands House is a spectacular Grade II* neo-classical villa, set in over 570 acres of historic landscaped parkland. In the Stables Visitor Centre there is a Courtyard Cafe, Gift Shop, Secondhand Bookshop and Artist Studies.

The Museum of Power, set in seven acres of grounds and housed in the Steam Pumping Station at Langford in Essex, exhibits and demonstrates working examples of power sources of all types and chronicles the major roles that they have played in history.
