Guard Iron with rope marks

This guard iron protected the stonework on a bridge near Camden street bridge. These metal rollers would be on the corners of bridges to protect the stonework of the bridge because the ropes would pick up grit and would become abrasive and wear away the stonework. The guard iron is meant to move but this one ended up becoming stuck so the abrasive rope ended up cutting into the metal.
