View of Rome from the Ponte Molle, oil painting.

Wilson is recognised as one of the greatest of British landscape artists. Painters such as Constable and Turner acknowledged a debt to Wilson, whose influence included treating landscapes as areas of light and texture. Wilson also completed a related series of drawings 'Rome view from the Ponte Milvio by moonlight' which were similar in composition to subsequent sketches by Turner.
Did you know?
Wilson painted the original pub sign giving Loggerheads its name, showing the heads of two gentlemen, back to back, because of a land dispute.
