Beavertail Prickly-pear-Opuntia basilaris
Beavertail Cactus (Opuntia basilaris)-Beavertail Cactus is a common plant found in many desert landscapes. With its brilliant magenta flowers and blue-green stems, it is a noteworthy addition to any garden. Use this cactus as a low-water use groundcover, but make sure to give it plenty of space as the stems are covered with minute glochids (spines).Photo by: Dick Trelease, Garden volunteer
