Thursday Tales and Trails is a series of afternoon workshops inspired by NLI’s exhibition Tall Tales and Deadly Drawings which will take place every Thursday afternoon during July and August. Bookmaking, shadow puppet theatre and story making are just some of the themes. Children’s author, Enda Wyley will host a workshop titled Word Wizards where participants will get the opportunity to create their own tale. Storyteller, Aideen McBride will lead a creative workshop on creating stories from pictures.

In collaboration with Dublin City Council’s Art Office, NLI is running a week-long project with Dublin as its theme. Post Cards from Dublin with Artist Elaine Leader, is aimed at the 10 – 12 age group. Inspired by material from NLI’s collections, including maps, photographs and prints and using a broad range of printmaking techniques, children will explore their sense of ‘place’ and design a series of postcards.

Story Hour will take place on Saturdays in July at 1pm, featuring story tellers Aideen McBride on 9th and Niall De Burca on the 23rd. There will also be an opportunity to hear fairy tales in Russian, German and French on the 16th.

Heritage Week 2011 kicks off with National Tell Tale Day on Saturday August 20th and to celebrate the great Irish tradition of story telling, author Tom McCaughren will read from his award-winning fox books including Run with the Wind and Run Swift, Run Free.
