Edmonton Cenotaph
The Edmonton Cenotaph represents the tombs of almost 3,000 soldiers who made the biggest sacrifice in World War II. The Cenotaph is made of steel, concrete and British Columbian marble. It weighs a total of more than 100 tons, and the base is 18 square feet and 12 feet deep. It is reinforced with streetcar rails. The platform rests on 12 concrete piles, eight feet deep. It was raised on August 13, 1936, but was later moved to in front of City Hall.
