Are you passionate about a local venue?
Share your knowledge with the world
It may be a zoo or botanic garden, or possibly a local history museum. You're deeply passionate about the subject and have a lot to share. Now there's a new way to support your local venue - and it's free.

contact the venue
You should approach the venue and introduce them to OOKL and the concept of digitising their content. The website contains lots of information about how OOKL works. The aim should be to help them digitise their collection so that more people can access it online and in the venue itself (on visitors' phones).
Join OOKL
Both you and the venue will need to join the service. Follow the links at the top of the page.
Agree terms
Be clear with the venue administrator about what you can and can't do. Discuss issues about access to the collections and choose times when it will be quiet as it's hard to get good photographs of objects when it's busy.
Start small
Some efforts fail to get started because the total size of the project appears too large. Remember the aim shouldn't be to digitise the entire collection - just the most important parts. Start by picking a small part of the collection or a specific room. You can always expand the project later.
What you need to do
The main effort is to take photographs of objects and describe them. You can either use a digital camera and upload it to the site or download OOKL on an iphone and use the app to upload images directly to the website (think about image quality though). Once on the site you can edit more and 'submit' to venue. Repeat.
Involve a group
Share the load and have more fun by organising a group of enthusiasts, volunteers, students etc to help out. The local college is also a great resource.
